Applying foundation on your face is a good way to achieve a natural looking base, even out your skin tone and give you the appearance of having flawless skin. However, it is important to apply foundation properly and not overdo it; else it will end up looking cakey. Here is a quick guide on how to apply foundation properly.
Get the right foundation: First thing is to get a foundation that matches your skin tone. There are several excellent foundations to consider such as Rimmel Wake Me Up Liquid Foundation, L’Oreal Paris True Match Mineral Powder Foundation, Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation and Max Factor Xperience Weightless Foundation.
Prep skin first: Begin with clean hands and a clean face. You first need to add a little bit of moisturizer on your face to help the foundation glide on later. Basically, your foundation will go on smoothly and stay on for longer if it is applied to well-hydrated skin. You could also use a foundation primer for this, to create a smooth surface for the foundation. Blend the moisturizer or primer properly and let it set for a minute or two before moving on to the next step. Some people add concealer at this point to cover trouble areas on their face.
Apply foundation: It’s time to apply your foundation now. Squeeze a small amount of foundation onto the palm of your hand to warm it to your body temperature. Apply the foundation to the middle of your face first and work outwards. This way, the bulk of your product is at the centre, where it is needed the most, and thinnest along your hairline. You can use brushes, sponges or your fingers to apply depending on your personal preference and type of texture that suits you best. You don’t have to apply everywhere, just the uneven areas that need coverage which is usually the chin, under the eyes, along the nose and the corners of your mouth. It is important to not apply a lot of foundation, it is easier to keep on adding and build up, rather than try and remove excess application.
Blend foundation: Moving from the inside of your face outward, start blending the foundation into your skin using your tool of choice. Make sure you blend it properly at the hairline and jaw line to avoid it looking cakey and fake. There should be no noticeable lines and your foundation should be applied thin.
Finish up your foundation: If you haven’t applied concealer yet, now is the time to do so. Finish up your foundation by setting it with setting powder, which helps it keep your foundation in place, prevents it from sliding around and prevents the oil build up from showing through.
